This is an incomparably beautiful south facing, 8 acre property with 350 feet of lakefront on pristine Hague Lake - an ideal investment, close to the ocean but high enough away to avoid a tsunami and built on bed rock, the safest to withstand an earthquake. From this quiet, secluded location there are million dollar views over Hague Lake and uninhabited Turtle Island. The property features very varied terrain with high mossy bluffs and spectacular rock formations down to a lakefront with a private sandy beach, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beautiful shoreline features arbutus, fir and cedar sometimes clinging to amazing rock faces. The highest bluff is wonderful and has a very special spiritual energy. It has been used for meditation, yoga, drumming, ritual and metaphysical exploration. Here you will find a medicine wheel made of rocks and natural materials from all over the world. This mossy bluff has many rare, listed species of plants, moss and lichen and is visited by many birds and other wildlife. Most of the 8 acre property is largely undeveloped but a network of trails connects all the unique areas for maximum enjoyment of the natural features.

The property is adjacent to Kw’as Park which offers hours of hiking on well maintained trails through spruce groves, old growth fir and cedar, and high open bluffs. The water is extremely warm for summer swimming from the private sandy beach. The lake is home to an ancient strain of coastal cutthroat trout, landlocked perhaps 10,000 years ago, which offers good fly fishing and delicious eating. The lake is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and wind surfing, but no power boats are allowed.

This property is a nature lovers paradise. Many species of birds frequent and nest on and around the property. The birds often seen include Eagles, ravens, pileated woodpecker, herons, kingfisher, nighthawk, owls, grouse and many songbirds. From the house and the studio a stunning view of the lake offers a unique opportunity to bird watch and observe otters playing, kingfishers diving for fish and beavers at work. Water fowl nest and rear their young along the shoreline and the cry of the loon is frequently heard. Numerous white tailed deer can be seen year round.

Landscaping/garden/orchard

(Around the house) rock plants, shrubs, roses, herbs, and perennials blend in with the natural landscaping of salal, oregon grape, ferns, arbutus, manzanita, pine, fir and cedar.

There are two vegetable gardens, a kitchen garden with raised beds near to the house which has been used for summer crops and a second garden which has been used mainly for root crops and berries. It is located next to a very productive mature fruit orchard with 6 varieties of apple, 1 pear, 2 plum and a cherry tree. Gardens and the orchard are fenced and gated. The gates are all "one of a kind" and handcrafted out of local materials and driftwood.

The Main House

This unique 2270 sq.ft. post and beam timber house was built with local wood, some of which was milled from trees on the property. Many doors, stained glass windows, maple wood floors and fixtures were saved and lovingly refinished from turn of the century Victoria homes.

On the first floor the custom made hand carved entrance door leads into a large separate heated foyer to remove shoes and hang outdoor clothes. The kitchen/dining room is open plan. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator with large freezer and a modern propane cooking stove. The open plan dining room has a bay window giving beautiful panoramic views over the lake from each window. Each uniquely crafted window in the house is designed to give a beautiful view. The comfortable living room has many "one of a kind" features. Framed by windows facing the lake and fitted bookshelves the central brick and stone chimney seat is an artistic masterpiece and is affectionately referred to as "the throne". A Window seat overlooks the forest and the shape of the deep sill of a another window lends itself to an altar, window seat or large flower arrangement. One end of the living room is used as a music room with piano and other instruments.

Downstairs the hardwood flooring is fir, pine and maple. At one end of the house is a room which was built as a children's playroom, but has at other times been used as a spare bedroom, office and massage room. Presently it is used as an art studio. The beautiful hardwood floor lends itself to yoga and dance.

The large downstairs bathroom has a claw foot tub, vanity, and tiled shower. There is a convenient separate toilet room with sink.

The utility/laundry room has a washer and dryer, large drying rack and a large hot water heater. Next to this is a large pantry, currently used for storage. This could be converted to a bedroom or office.
The impressive central staircase to the second floor is handcrafted from yellow cedar.

On the second floor there are 3 bedrooms, a spacious master bedroom, a large double room and a childrens room with 2 built in separate bunk beds. A TV room can be used as a fourth bedroom and off the TV room there is a large storage loft. The new 3 piece bathroom upstairs has a corner shower.

The large basement built on bedrock, houses the electric furnace and wood fired boiler, either of which can be used to fuel the hot water central heating system. Cast iron hot water radiators throughout the house give an even, gentle heat. A convenient wood shute from the woodshed ensures easy wood access. In the basement a sophisticated water purification system with Ultra Violet light guarantees safe, good tasting drinking water from a submersible pump in the lake. The basement also houses a root cellar. The basement can be accessed from within the house by an internal door and staircase or from the outside by an outer door.

In the event of power failures, all main appliances, water pump, and lighting are hard wired for generator power and with a propane cookstove and wood fired heat option easy living independent of hydro power is possible.

A deck runs the length of the front of the house facing south and there is a second separate lower deck with plenty of room for outside furniture.
